When Batsford started publishing books in 1843 it included a range of specialist books – as we do today. In the 19th century Batsford had a reputation for quality books by the best writers in their field – as we do today.

It has been a great privilege for me, as Batsford publisher, to maintain that pedigree while tailoring our books for a fast-moving 21st century. We have produced a list that combines the tradition of excellence with fresh subjects and ideas, publishing inspirational fashion books that are bestsellers across the world, chess books by Kasparov and Karpov, award-winning practical art books by artists in everything from botanical art to nudes, and textile books by textile artists with work in the V&A.

We remain a specialist publisher with expert writers that share their knowledge and enthusiasm with readers all over the world.
