Synopsis
'Britain From Above' is the official book accompanying BBC’s landmark seven-part television series of the same name airing in Autumn 2008 and presented by Andrew Marr. The centrepiece of the schedules, Britain From Above airs on BBC1, BBC2 and BBC4 and have its own dedicated website, www.bbc.co.uk/britainfromabove.
The series sets out to show how the country works and the best way to see it working is from above. It will investigate Britain’s past and show how analysing the country from an aerial perspective can reveal much about the future.
The programme will show how satellites are used to monitor change and how the spy-in-the-sky monitors traffic flow, tracks weather systems, documents 'Secret Britain', records farmers’ land use and logs the flow of pollutants.
The book will follow the shape of the BBC series with chapters on Hidden britain, Wild Britain, Britain's Landscape, Migration as well as chapters looking specifically at our cities past, present and future as well as predictions for the architectural landscape to follow.
Aerial footage will show how phantom traffic jams appear, floodwater ebbs and flows while computer simulations will show the effects of building development in the next 50 years to show what London could look like in 2058.
'Britain from Above' is a compilation of the most stunning images and computer simulations shown in the series, charting Britain’s natural history, its industry and transport systems, its natural heritage and archaeology.
